Alight Rwanda is currently recruiting for multiple health-related positions under our Standby Roster - a pool of qualified professionals ready to be deployed across various refugee camps as the need arises.
These roles are essential to our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, dignified health services to refugees, displaced populations, and host communities throughout Rwanda.
Primary Purpose Of The Position
Pharmacy nurse will dispense medications, provide patient counseling, and collaborate with pharmacists to ensure safe and effective medication use. Act as a link between the pharmacy and the broader healthcare team. The Nurse will also provide clinical care to refugees at the site level, according to all national health protocols. He/she will maintain records of patient data for reporting purposes and will work to maintain and improve the level of healthcare for beneficiaries. This position may work in several different capacities within the nursing continuum, including IPD/OPD care, HIV/AIDs programming (in PMTCT and VCT), pharmacy management, and referral services, all according to both ALIGHT and Rwanda Ministry of Health protocols and guidelines.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
• Use all pharmacy tools correctly according to stock management procedures for health products (stock cards, supply request book, register for special drugs distribution and register for Health Center materials).
• Fill stock cards whenever there is a movement in or out of health center pharmacy
• Verify medical prescriptions according to protocols for pharmaceutical management
• Maintain stock management and best storage practices for health products according to WHO and National protocols
• Analyze health product consumption trends and provide technical guidance to Health Coordinators and Pharmacist on health product stock management decisions
• Carry out distribution of essential drugs to patients on daily basis, respecting the FIFO method (First IN First Out), and informing patients on drugs dosage and mode of use
• Receive and organize transport of medicines and other medical supplies from ALIGHT pharmacy store
• Write and submit requisitions of essential drugs and other medical supplies on weekly basis, track them with Kigali and with field-level pharmacies
• Maintain recordkeeping procedures of health products stock as per ALIGHT pharmacy regulations, including daily updating of stock cards and scheduled inventory reports (monthly/weekly)
• Coordinate with other health staff on self-assessment of clinical skills and challenges.
• Collaborate on the delivery of essential drugs to patients with other ALIGHT departments, particularly with the ALIGHT pharmacy
• Maintain organization of pharmacy space, including ability to recall/locate items
• Maintain knowledge and capacity to manage both Stock Pharmacy and Clinic Pharmacy, including following standard ordering procedures, maintaining buffer stock, coordinating with Kigali-level warehouse, and following storage protocols
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor, or any other ALIGHT Senior Managers.
Education, Technical Skills & Knowledge Required
• A1 in Nursing field required
• 2-3 years of experience in nursing in a clinical setting in a low-resource, fast paced setting, working with vulnerable/displaced persons
• Analytical and organizational skills/experience with health data
• Demonstrated knowledge of Health Information Systems, Nutrition protocols, HIV protocols, and Primary and Reproductive Health Care concepts, including Rwandan Ministry of Health protocols and guidelines
• Experience in collecting patient data for health systems monitoring purposes.
• Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation of health-related projects
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills
• Oral/writing skills in Kinyarwanda and English or French
• Experience working in protracted refugee situation and/or previous experience in Rwanda
