Job Vacancy : TRANSMISSION ENGINEER (OPERATIONS SUPPORT AND PERFORMANCE)


Requirements :


1. PLANNING & DESIGN



· Participates in or development of the microwave link design with point-to-point and possibly point-to-multipoint systems

· Ensure new microwave links are implemented as per design and as well as per Company standards

· Plans and follow up end to end transmission projects

· Transmission frequency spectrum management

· Translates intra- and extra-departmental requirements and volume forecasts into technical specifications and network expansion plans.

· Ensures technical approval of site drawings, site engineering packs and link acceptance folders are carried out

· Participates in technical site surveys to provide design input on behalf of the transport team


2. OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE



· Performs routine O&M procedures as prescribed for Transmission networks.

· Reacts to emergency faults and ensures all faults are rectified promptly within contracted SLA.

· Resolves repetitive faults affecting transmission network

· Ensures that transmission sites have adequate site power.

· Compiles information and reports on the availability of the transmission network.

· Swiftly identifies and clears any faults or alarms assigned by trouble ticket or ensures escalation within time period stipulated in SLAs to correct parties if unable to fix.

· Closes or forwards all trouble tickets promptly.

· Implements approved software changes as directed in the change requests.

· Ensures maintenance work undertaken by contractors meets Econet Wireless’s specification.

· Maintains a comprehensive set of records of all transmission links and spares for all the links within designated area.

· Ensures all security and network Integrity documentation is completed and adhered to.

· Makes sure all projects and changes are implemented with a minimal risk for the live network and preventing as much as possible service impact.


2. OPTIMIZATION & PERFORMANCE


· Analyses and solves 2nd and 3rd Level Support trouble tickets

· Makes sure all projects and changes are implemented with a minimal risk for the live network and preventing as much as possible service impact

· Keeps transmission links optimized in the network

· Relocates microwave links from one region to another if required

· Verifies log files, test cases, upgrade procedure

· Identifies network areas at risk

Manages associated optimization Projects; deliver in time, budget and quality


Qualification

· B.Sc. Electrical/Electronics (Telecommunications)/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

· Master’s degree would be an added advantage.

Experience


· 3-5 years of relevant experience

· Strong Microwave radio planning background

· Telecommunication and GSM/UMTS/LTE network knowledge

· Good understanding of Fibre and Microwave network technology and engineering

· Basic knowledge of TCP/IP protocol suite and internetworking

· Excellent experience in Traffic Management, Capacity Analysis & planning or Access Network Capacity Planning
