ABOUT THE ROLE

The Electrical Engineering Team Lead will provide technical and administrative support to the engineering department, focusing on the design, installation, and troubleshooting of solar water systems. This role will involve developing and delivering training to relevant teams on solar panel configurations, pump selection, and electrical component specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide organizational expertise on all solar and electrical systems, including but not limited to community wells, office solar power, office generator, and electrical grid.
Track new installations and monitor solar performance. Quality Control wiring pumps, solar panels, float switches, and various other electrical control installs.
Lead troubleshooting efforts for solar water systems and electrical failures, ensuring swift resolution to minimize operational downtime.
Assess pump performance and make changes to standard pump configurations, or changes to solar panels configurations as required.
Provide supply chain monitoring by specifying electrical components for solar pumping systems, finding and vetting suppliers of materials, track stock levels, and manage international ordering of new materials.
Work closely with procurement teams to evaluate and recommend electrical and electronic equipment, ensuring compliance with operational requirements and budgets.
Develop training materials, launch Technical Training Center, deliver training on all electrical systems to Government Engineers, Community Technicians, and Amazi Water staff, thereby ensuring sustainability of systems.
Lead and oversee electrical engineering projects related to solar water systems for partner projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
Maintain accurate records of technical support activities, training sessions, and equipment specifications.
Prepare regular reports on system performance and recommend improvements based on analysis.
Ensure all electrical and electronic systems comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.


QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
A minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in the field, with a focus on solar water systems or renewable energy systems. Experience with designing, installing, and troubleshooting solar-powered submersible pump water systems.
Proficiency with email, Excel & Word, and CAD drawing.
Demonstrated planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
A desire to serve people and a love for Jesus Christ.
Ability to communicate with people from different cultures and economic levels. Knowledge of international community development and social work.
Fluent in English both written and spoken, and basic level of French, Swahili, Kirundi, or Kinyarwanda is highly desired, or willingness to learn one.


WORKING CONDITIONS

A 50/50 combination of challenging field conditions and office work in Burundi, Africa.
Required to sit/stand for up to eight hours per day.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
Stamina to travel via all-wheel drive vehicles to remote locations.


COMPENSATION

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience, as well as health/dental/eye/medical evacuation insurance; and vacation, sick time, annual pay increase, paid annual home leave, as well as professional development benefits.
