À propos de l’offre d’emploi

We have an English-medium, international church in need of a full-time associate pastor. Although the national language is Swahili, there are a lot of Christian foreigners living and working here who want an English-only service. And they come from a variety of Protestant backgrounds, so our church fills that need by providing a service that focuses on musical worship (a blend of contemporary praise and modern hymns), prayer, and the expositional preaching/teaching of the Word.

The position could be filled by an intern for a period of several months at a time, or by someone who wants to commit to long-term work. There is an established congregation of about 30 people at the moment, with the potential for many more if there were someone available to do outreach. There was a time when we had over 100 regular attenders, but COVID and political issues caused many foreigners to leave the country, but the conditions are now more favorable and numbers are increasing.

This person will report to the ICM-Africa Executive Director (ED) who is currently filling the role of senior pastor. They will also have the opportunity to learn and be involved with the ICM-Africa Bible college ministry. Individual MUST be self-supporting as a missionary.

Responsibilities

Prepare and deliver 30-minute expository (verse by verse) sermons, in English, on Sunday mornings twice a month, or whenever the senior pastor is out of the country (approx 4-5 months/year total)
Lead Bible studies for adults/youth on a weekly basis.
Secondary duties will be working with the ICM-Africa ED to carry out logistical/administrative functions as needed and when the ED is out of country.

Opportunities

Musical gifts are welcome and needed for the services
Conduct outreach to local universities, international schools, and neighborhoods to draw in more people.
Work with local elementary schools teaching the Bible in their weekly mandatory Religion class.
Conduct free English classes at the church using ESL curriculum to help Tanzanians improve their language skills

Qualifications

Skills:

Knowledge and ability to preach expositionally.
Excellent, clear English speaker; good enunciation needed to be understood by international community of non-native English speakers.
Strong organizational skills; good time management
Teachable, flexible, available, and submitted to leadership

Education: Bible college degree, school of ministry, and/or missions certification required to obtain Tanzanian missionary resident/work permit.

Doctrinal Expectations: Conservative evangelical/nondenominational (for example, like Calvary Chapel); salvation by grace through faith alone; complementarian; balanced approach to spiritual gifts exercised decently and orderly.

Resume, statement of faith, and letter of recommendation from pastor(s) required from all applicants. Zoom calls will be scheduled for short-list candidates.

This is a non-paid position, so candidate must be a missionary with a proven source of support. It is not possible/legal for someone to be employed (either locally or remote) while also working as a missionary/pastor in this country. Approximate monthly cost of living for a family of 4 would be $2000-$3000 (housing and food), plus initial cost of setup, acquiring transportation, medical care, and savings.
