ABOUT THE EMPLOYER:

Active Social Architecture (ASA) Design Ltd is a multidisciplinary architectural firm specializing in sustainable design solutions for social, educational, health, and civic projects in Rwanda. Since 2012, ASA has provided hands-on technical and design services to governmental institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, and private clients, delivering context-sensitive solutions in urban and rural environments.

Applied research forms a cornerstone of ASA’s practice, exploring innovative technologies, processes, and materials to create impactful designs that address community needs. OBJECTIVES:

The vacancy seeks to offer an in-house position to a junior structural Engineer, holding a degree in civil or structural Engineering, with at least 2 years of experience. The candidate will work within a dynamic team of designers and engineers to develop and supervise engineering projects, ensuring efficiency and sustainability from concept through construction supervision.

The successful applicant will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, and will contribute to projects aimed at enhancing communities, both in urban and rural settings.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The junior Structural Engineer will be responsible for the provision of professional structural engineering services for ASA Design Ltd projects.


A. Design

Collaborate with the design team to develop structural engineering projects.
Design structural projects and assess the feasibility of designs within the Rwandan context in
collaboration with the senior engineers.
Develop detailed designs for structural projects and all related calculations based on architectural drawings and in collaboration with the senior engineers.
Prepare project documentation for permitting purposes.


B. Site Supervision and Post-Construction Services

Conduct structural site inspections and prepare detailed reports.
Perform design modifications and updates as required.
Meet with ASA and other consultants to discuss project variations and their cost implications, providing positive feedback and contributing to team efforts.
Perform structural assessments.
Attend site meetings after site inspections, as required.
Conduct post-construction inspections and prepare final reports.
Review and verify structural shop drawings, detailed drawings, and as-built submissions by the contractor for conformity with the project.
Evaluate construction tests performed by the contractor to ensure quality and compliance.
Assist liaison with local authorities.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural design and site supervision.
Proven ability to work in team and follow senior staff instructions.


Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.


Software Proficiency

Proficient in ArchiCAD.
PROTA software.


Languages

Fluency in English.
Kinyarwanda is an advantage.
